Building the Memorial Shelter

Winter 2019 commenced the building of our stone open fronted Memorial Shelter utilising the recycled 12 tonnes of stone excavated when building the new road, which were cut to shape and formed the exterior walls.  The Memorial Shelter was the first structure to be built in the Rehoboth since 1875.

Rodley Scaffolding kindly supplied and erected scaffolding for the various stages of the build and the stained glass window was designed, produced and donated by PTF Glass of Stanningley. The floor, roof and seat costs were funded by our sale of hand crafted wood Rehoboth Reindeer throughout November/December2019.

A water butt was fitted and folding seat benches built inside the Shelter. The final piece of work was burying a steel time capsule in the foundations. In summer 2021 our electric hub, CCTV and Wi-Fi hub were installed in the Shelter.

All work was undertaken by our skilled volunteer Building Team. The Memorial Shelter will be utilised as a shelter for both volunteers and visitors.
