Rebuilding the Dr. Lambert of West Lodge Surgery Memorial

September 2021 saw the 150th anniversary of the founding of West Lodge Surgery in Farsley by Dr. John Lambert. The Rehoboth has strong connections with both West Lodge and the Lambert family.

Dr. Frederick William Lambert was the nephew of the founder and developed West Lodge throughout the Victorian area and has the words “Surgeon” and “West Lodge” proudly inscribed on his memorial. The family grave and memorial for Dr. Frederick William Lambert (1844-1909) and his family is in a prominent position to the left of the Carriage Road (Plots C50 and C51) but for many years had been in a state of disrepair with the cross that completed the nine foot structure on the ground at its foot.

In late summer 2021, volunteers decided to rebuild the walls of the vault at the foot of the memorial and anchor them together. With the support of Rodley Scaffolding a platform was erected that allowed the cross to be remounted in November 2021. Finally layers of white quartz chippings (identical to the original) were placed inside the memorial walls.

We were appointed the charitable beneficiary for the 150th anniversary commemoration at West Lodge which assisted greatly with the cost of materials to complete this important restoration.
